Abdulla Al Yafei

Acting General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and Board Secretary

Abdulla Khalid Alyafei is the Acting General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and Board Secretary at Sidra Medicine, a specialist women’s and children’s hospital in the State of Qatar. He joined the healthcare organization in 2015.

In these roles at Sidra Medicine, Abdulla provides senior legal and governance leadership across the organization, advising the Board of Governors and executive management on a wide range of strategic, regulatory, and institutional matters. His responsibilities span corporate governance, regulatory compliance, ethics, disputes, commercial contracting, and legal risk, with a strong focus on ensuring that legal and governance frameworks support the organization’s long-term objectives.

A Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales, Abdulla has built extensive in-house legal experience within the healthcare sector, with particular expertise at the intersection of law, governance, and institutional oversight. His legal education in the United Kingdom, combined with his experience in Qatar’s healthcare sector, has given him a strong grounding in both English and Qatari legal and regulatory environments.

Throughout his tenure, Abdulla has been instrumental in strengthening Sidra Medicine’s legal, governance and compliance frameworks, including leading the development of the Board of Governors’ Policies and Charters.

He has also led the negotiation of complex healthcare commercial agreements and construction contracts, including those based on FIDIC forms, and has overseen a broad range of contentious matters spanning civil, criminal, medical malpractice, healthcare regulatory, administrative, and employment issues. In 2019, Abdulla was the recipient of Sidra Medicine’s Chief Executive Recognition Award for Service Excellence, in recognition of his contribution to the organisation.

Abdulla holds a Bachelor of Laws from Nottingham Trent University, as well as a Master of Laws having followed an approved programme in Legal Practice Course from Nottingham Law School. In 2025, he completed Georgetown University in Qatar’s Strategic Leadership Development Programme and in 2026, he successfully completed Leadership in Corporate Counsel at Harvard Law School.
