Pediatric Emergency Department
ESI level 1-3 and Trauma, Minor Injuries (All ESI Levels)
The Pediatric Emergency Department at Sidra Medicine treats children from the ages of 0 to 18 years, with severe and life-threatening injuries or illnesses including but not limited to major motor vehicle accidents or pedestrian head injuries.
We are part of the Qatar Trauma System, a joint program with Hamad Medical Corporation and Qatar Ambulance Service and provide major trauma care (ESI 1-3) for seriously injured children aged between 0-14 years of age. All children in this age group are brought to Sidra Medicine by air or land ambulance and are immediately evaluated or stabilized by a multidisciplinary trauma team of physicians, nurses and allied health professionals.
Examples of ESI level 1-3
Seizures / Convulsions
||Life threatening Asthma Attack
Life threatening infections like Sepsis
||Vomiting with blood stained fluid
Newly Diagnosed Diabetes
The Pediatric Emergency Department also treats children with minor injuries at all ESI levels - for example small lacerations and abscesses, cuts and wounds or minor head injuries.
Our Emergency Services are classified as Sole Provider. This means, patients will not be required to pay for the full cost of the service for the care provided. This is similar to what is offered at Hamad Medical Corporation.
Urgent Care Clinic:
ESI 4-5 and non-critical
The Urgent Care Clinic, provides treatment of children and young people from the ages of 0-18 years of age with non-life threatening or non-critical illnesses. This applies to children who have medical conditions and ESI level 4-5 upon triage.
The Urgent Care Clinic is open from 8.00 a.m. until 12 midnight daily and walk-ins are accepted.
Our urgent care clinic services are private and classified as Preferred Services. This means that since the service is available at other healthcare centers and hospitals, patients will be required to pay for the service as they would in any other private hospital.
Upon triage, the patient’s family will be notified and given the choice as to whether they would like to have their child cared for at our Urgent Care Clinic or to try another hospital or clinic instead.
Examples of conditions seen at the Urgent Clinic include:
- Fever with cold and cough
- Diarrhea with no dehydration
- Ear pain
