Mitchell Stotland

Dr. Mitchell Stotland is the Vice Chair, Department of Surgery, Division Chief of Plastic, Craniofacial, and Hand Surgery, and Medical Director, Perioperative Services at Sidra Medicine in Doha, Qatar. Completed his medical school education and plastic surgery residency at McGill School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada, and craniofacial surgery fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (1997). Began his clinical practice in 1997 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, founding a multidisciplinary craniofacial anomalies program in 2000. In 2007, obtained a Master of Science degree in Evaluative Clinical Sciences from the renowned Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice.

In 2014, Dr. Stotland moved to Doha, Qatar, becoming the founding division chief of Plastic, Craniofacial, and Hand Surgery at Sidra Medicine; was appointed Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College – Qatar in 2019 as Medical Director, Perioperative Services, and in 2021 Vice Chair, Department of Surgery, Sidra Medicine. Has introduced a number of new and complex plastic surgical procedures – and a multidisciplinary approach to craniofacial care – to Qatar.

Dr. Stotland’s main areas of clinical interest include management of cleft lip and cleft palate, isolated and syndromic forms of craniosynostosis, facial trauma, and total ear reconstruction. His research has focused primarily on the assessment and measurement of facial difference, including through the development of novel machine learning models. In May 2023 Dr. Stotland chaired the Inaugural “Artificial Intelligence and Medicine – Bringing Digital Breakthroughs to the Bedside” symposium at Sidra Medicine.
