Prof. Ibrahim Janahi

Chair of Medical Education, Designated Institutional Officer, and Division Chief of Pulmonology

Professor Janahi is responsible for medical education, including coordinating undergraduate and graduate medical training, monitoring the Continuous Medical Education (CME), and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) of senior medical staff. He also oversees the fellowship programs and accredited residency programs from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGMEI). Prof. Janahi focuses on cultivating interdisciplinary programs, an effective and efficient way of medical and health practice, as part of the institution’s joint accreditation with the ACCME.

Prof. Janahi’s clinical expertise includes interventional pulmonology, chronic lung diseases with genetic basis, and rare lung diseases in children. His research includes primary ciliary dyskinesia, pulmonary hypertension in children, the genetic basis of lung diseases, and non-invasive monitoring of airway inflammation.

Dr. Janahi joined Sidra Medicine from Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), where he was a consultant pediatric pulmonologist and established the pediatric pulmonology section in 2001. He was also the pediatric emergency center acting director from 2001-2008.

Prof. Janahi is also a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Executive Director of Medical Research at HMC and Chairman of Qatar's National Permanent Licensing Committee. He is the founder-president of the Gulf Society for Pediatric Respirology and a founding member of the Arab Pediatric Pulmonology Association (APPA). He is a member of the exam committee of the Arab Board and an examiner for certifying boards and qualifying examinations, including the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health, U.K.
