Prof. Euan Wallace

Professor Euan Wallace AM is the Executive Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Vice-President (Health) of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.

Prof. Wallace is a senior and respected healthcare leader, clinical academic and university executive. He has had a distinguished career in women’s health, patient safety, and health system reform.

Until 2017 Professor Wallace led Victoria’s largest women’s and newborn health service, at Monash Health, and Australia’s leading academic department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University.

In 2017, Prof. Wallace was appointed the inaugural CEO of Safer Care Victoria, the state’s first healthcare quality and safety improvement agency. In 2020, Professor was appointed Secretary of the Victorian Department of Health, a position he held until 2025. In that role, he oversaw the state’s health portfolio and led Victoria’s health response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also led several system-wide health initiatives, including Victoria’s virtual emergency department, the state’s first public IVF program, and reforms in mental health and planned surgery.

A leading researcher in fetal development, maternal health, stem cell biology and patient safety, Prof. Wallace has authored more than 440 peer-reviewed publications. Seven patents have been developed from his research, two of which were licensed to industry partners.

In recognition of his contributions to women’s health and education, Prof. Wallace was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2013, and a Fellow of the Academy of Health and Medical Sciences in 2015. In 2018, he received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and in 2023 was also conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Laws by Monash University for his services to women’s health and Victoria’s healthcare system. In 2026 he was elected a Senior Fellow, Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI).

Prof. Wallace is a medical graduate of the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, where he also completed his research training and conferred an Doctorate of Medicine (cum laude). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK) and the Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and an Honorary Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Management.
