Sidra Medicine today announced its National Development programs for 2016. The programs include education grants, internship and job shadowing opportunities.
Sidra’s Education Grant and Graduate Associate programs are set up specifically to encourage Qataris to take up careers clinical medicine and prepare them for roles at Sidra Medicine. The Education Grant program provides grants for Qatari students studying in clinical fields from approved local and international universities. The Graduate Associate program offers graduates who have successfully finished their Education Grant-supported study to join Sidra Medicine for different career opportunities.
Dr. Eiman Al-Ansari, Executive Director of Learning and Development and Director of National Development at Sidra Medicine said, “Our programs are developed to give mentorship and career guidance opportunities to nationals and motivate them to take up key roles in the healthcare sector. We are looking for ambitious, dynamic youth who share our commitment to transforming healthcare in Qatar and the region. Our goal is to target those currently studying for clinical degrees but also to encourage students and guide them to different career paths in the health care sector.”
Following the success of the job shadowing program with the Bedaya Center last year, Sidra Medicine has continued its partnership by launching two job shadowing programs this year. The program aims to provide an opportunity for high school students to work and shadow a Sidra Medicine employee for a day. More than 16 students were mentored by department leads at Sidra Medicine including Communications, Recruitment and the Simulation Center in the first round in January. The next round of the job shadowing program will take place in August 2016.
Sidra Medicine’s National Development programs focus on developing and empowering local talent to support Qatar’s National Vision 2030. In its effort to promote this objective across the country, Sidra Medicine has participated in a number of events in early 2016 including the Qatar Career Fair (Winter Camp) in January; the QF Career Fair at Hamad Bin Khalifa University; and Weill-Cornell Medical’s Medicine Unlimited event in February.
“Our Education Outreach team has participated in some of the leading career fairs across universities and high schools in Qatar. In partnership with Sidra Medicine’s simulation team and support from several of our clinical leads including Nursing and Pediatric Emergency, our outreach programs are packaged to give students first-hand experience in a simulation type setting. The program gives students the opportunity to learn more about careers in medicine. It is very encouraging to see the growing interest in healthcare careers amongst our youth today and the curiosity they display when using some of the simulation technology and manikins,” concluded Dr. Eiman.
