Sidra Medicine appoints Dr. Abdulla Mohd Essa Al Kaabi as Executive Vice Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Abdulla Mohd Essa Al Kaabi, FAAP, FRCPC has been appointed as Executive Vice Chief Medical Officer at Sidra Medicine, an all-digital medical and academic research center focusing on women’s and children’s health. Dr. Al Kaabi will report to Sidra Medicine’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Edward Ogata, MD, MBA. Dr. Al Kaabi is Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornel Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) and will retain this role alongside his position at Sidra Medicine. In his new role at Sidra Medicine, Dr. Al Kaabi will assist Dr. Ogata and other Sidra Medicine leaders to build the medical staff and develop all aspects of Sidra Medicine’s programs.

Prior to joining Sidra Medicine, Dr. Al Kaabi was a senior consultant and the chief of Pediatric Nephrology in Hamad General Hospital. He was also the Deputy Chairman of Pediatrics in Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and a member of HMC’s Pediatric Executive Committee. Dr. Al Kaabi has a long-term record in inter-organizational communications and cooperation, having worked with the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada, WCMC-Q and HMC. He led the alliance between SickKids and HMC and is a member of the steering committee for the Sidra Medicine-HMC Affiliation Committee. Dr. Al Kaabi has also helped bring international standards and new treatments in pediatric care to Qatar. He established Qatar’s pediatric renal transplant program and set up the first pediatric hemodialysis unit, as well as founding the Spina Bifida Multidisciplinary Clinic in HMC.

Alongside a Bachelor’s degree in Basic Medical Sciences and a medical degree, Dr. Al Kaabi also holds a Master’s degree in Health Care Management from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He completed his post-doctoral training, including residency and fellowship at HMC, Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
