  • About the Physician

    Dr. Wessam is an Attending (Consultant) Physician in the General and Obstetric Anesthesiology department with more than 24 years of experience as an anesthesiologist. He worked at Guy's and St Thomas, and Kings College Hospitals in London and Ipswich General Hospital (UK) before joining Sidra Medicine in 2018.

    Dr. Wessam provides high-standard anesthesia care for the women of Qatar and provides pain relief for labor using epidurals as well as anesthesia for operative deliveries (e.g., Cesarean Section), together with anesthetic management of gynecology surgery, plastic surgery, and IVF procedures using both general anesthesia and sedation techniques. He also provides anesthesia care for children above six for various procedures (e.g., Orthopedic surgery, urology surgery, intervention radiology, and general surgery.)

    Dr. Wessam has a vast experience in all fields of anesthesia, including oncology, orthopedic, ENT, and major bowel surgeries, mainly in the UK (16 years).

    Areas of Interest
    • Dr. Wessam has sub speciality interest in managing difficult airways. He has been on faculty in the difficult airway management course and workshop at Kings College Hospital (London) since 2015.
    • He also has a special interest in utilizing simulation for teaching. He is the founder of the DAMS (Difficult Airway Management Simulation) course at Kings college Hospital (London), which helped many anaesthesiologists during their anaesthesia training.
    Educational Interests
    • Dr. Wessam is the simulation lead for the anesthesia department at Sidra Medicine. He provides regular training and teaching for doctors, nurses, and midwives.
    • He is also one of the hospital’s few ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) instructors, helping to train and certify medical staff from all departments in the hospital.
