Helping Children Communicate, Feed, and Thrive

Sidra Medicine’s Speech-Language Services provide specialized care for children and young people facing communication and swallowing challenges. Whether it’s difficulty speaking, understanding language, or safely eating and drinking, our team is here to help families find clarity, comfort, and progress.

Our licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) work with patients from birth to age 18 in both outpatient clinics and inpatient settings. We assess and treat a wide range of speech, language, feeding, and swallowing disorders using engaging, child-centered approaches that make therapy enjoyable and effective.

Who We Help

We support children and young people experiencing:

  • Delays in speech production or language comprehension
  • Difficulty paying attention, listening, or interacting with others
  • Voice, resonance, or articulation issues
  • Challenges in feeding and swallowing
  • Communication through augmentative and alternative methods (AAC)

Our Approach

Our therapists engage children through play and observation, collaborating closely with families to build therapy plans based on each child’s interests, strengths, and goals. This helps children remain motivated, turning learning into a positive, confidence-building experience.

Specialized Support

We collaborate with other clinics and specialties, including:

  • Videofluoroscopy Clinic – To assess swallowing safety
  • Behavioral Feeding Clinic – For feeding concerns linked to development or behavior
  • ENT and Craniofacial Services – Supporting children with cleft palate, tracheostomies, or hearing challenges
  • HRIF Clinic – Monitoring high-risk infants post-NICU
  • Developmental Pediatrics – Offering joint evaluations and therapy recommendations

Feeding and Swallowing Care

We observe and assess how a child eats and swallows to identify concerns and gently introduce new techniques that promote safe, stress-free feeding. We also guide families on how to continue support at home and coordinate referrals when needed.
