Mamoun Elawad

Prof. Elawad is the Chief of Pediatric Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition division and Section Head of Inflammatory Bowel Disorders at Sidra Medicine, where he has been serving since 2014. He brings decades of clinical and academic expertise in managing complex gastrointestinal conditions in children. Prof. Elawad completed his pediatric gastroenterology training at renowned UK institutions, including Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and King’s College Hospital.

Prior to joining Sidra Medicine, he held consultant positions at University Hospital of Wales, Birmingham Children’s Hospital and served as a Senior Lecturer at University College London. He has been the Head of the Department at GOSH since 2007 where he led major departmental expansion. He established the world’s first Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant program for autoimmune and inflammatory gut diseases and co-founded the European GENIUS group for early-onset Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD). His research focuses on IBD genetics, food allergies, and stem cell therapy, with over 50 peer-reviewed publications.
