Overview
Mastering the Art of Preceptorship is an interactive, full-day professional development workshop designed by Sidra Medicine for healthcare professionals who support the transition of orientees into clinical practice.
The workshop equips participants – nurses, midwives and allied health professionals – with knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to provide safe, structured, and supportive preceptorship.
Through five focused modules, participants will explore the preceptor role, psychological safety, individualized learning design, constructive feedback, resilience, and the assessment of competence, clinical judgment, and readiness for independent practice. Facilitated discussions, question-and-answer sessions, reflection, and a practical preceptorship action-planning activity enable participants to apply key concepts to real clinical situations.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be better prepared to build orientee confidence, respond effectively to transition challenges, offer meaningful feedback, and support safe progression toward autonomous practice.

- Describe the roles and responsibilities of a clinical preceptor and explain strategies that promote psychological safety and effective learning.
- Demonstrate structured teaching and constructive feedback techniques that address learner needs, manage defensiveness, and build orientee confidence and resilience.
- Assess an orientee’s competence, clinical judgment, and readiness for independent practice, and develop an action plan to support a safe transition.
