Overview

A one-day workshop designed for pediatrics physicians and trainees to build confidence in assessment and develop skills in laceration repair. Covers wound assessment, anesthesia, closure techniques, and aftercare using evidence-based approaches to improve patient outcomes and practitioner skills.

Station 1: Wound Assessment, Preparation & Alternative Closures

Station 2: Basic Suturing – Simple Interrupted & Mattress Techniques

Station 3: Advanced Techniques – Multilayer Closure & Corner Sutures

Conference Objectives

  • Assess laceration wounds systematically to determine appropriate management strategies.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for local anesthesia administration, wound preparation, irrigation, and infection prevention while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
  • Perform various wound closure techniques including simple interrupted, running, subcuticular, and mattress sutures, stapling, tissue adhesives, and tape closure through hands-on practice.
  • Analyze wound characteristics and patient factors to select appropriate closure techniques, suture materials, and needle types.
  • Evaluate wound healing outcomes and provide appropriate aftercare and follow-up recommendations.
  • Apply principles of continuous learning and technical skill refinement to stay updated with advancements in laceration management.
