Transition & Step-Down Care
At Sidra Medicine, babies who no longer require intensive neonatal care may transition to our Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), a private service designed for babies requiring ongoing monitoring, feeding support, growth observation, or short-term medical supervision before discharge home.
The SCBU provides:
- Lower-acuity neonatal monitoring
- Feeding and weight gain support
- Jaundice observation and phototherapy
- Transitional respiratory support
- Parent education and discharge preparation
- Private family-centered rooms
Some babies may transfer directly from the NICU, while others may be admitted from the postnatal ward based on physician assessment.
