University of Calgary Nursing Program

On January 14th 2021, Sidra Medicine welcomed undergraduate nursing students from the University of Calgary in Qatar for clinical placements in the Pediatrics Department for the first time. An important part of becoming a competent nurse is observation and performance in a clinical practice setting in order to apply classroom learning to real life scenarios. The students will work alongside Sidra Medicine clinical nurses who have undergone training in precepting effectively workshops in order to give the students the best learning experience possible.

Helen Sutherland and Teresa Anderson from the Professional Practice Team have been leading the project working with colleagues from the university in planning for the arrival of the first group. The students are in year 3 of a bachelor of nursing program with the placement being part of the ‘childbearing/childbearing families clinical course’. Sidra Medicine is delighted to welcome the students and hope once graduated they will return as part of the nursing workforce.
