Medical Artificial Intelligence
Dr. Yosra Mekki, MD is a physician scientist specializing in sports medicine and artificial intelligence. A recipient of an Oxford Graduate Scholarship, she is currently completing her second doctorate in engineering at the University of Oxford on an academic clinical physician-engineer path, focusing on improving return-to-play outcomes in athletes through machine learning and predictive modeling.
Dr. Mekki has published with top-tier houses including BMJ, Nature, Cell, and IEEE, and has received national and international research awards. She is currently the inaugural Nature Digital Medicine communications fellow, hosting their podcast, and sits on the journal’s Editorial Board. She also leads Qatar’s national AI and XR healthcare network.
Her collaborative work spans institutions including Aspetar, the Football Association, and the Mayo Clinic on digital medicine initiatives. She has held visiting fellowships to gain exposure to digital sports medicine at Mayo Clinic and King’s College London, and is the current research lead at the Clinician Engineer’s Hub at Cambridge.
Dr. Mekki has delivered international keynotes and lectures at conferences including the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations workshop and the International Olympic Committee flagship conference. She has taught medical AI at Qatar University and sits on national and international scientific committees. She was recognized as a “Young AI Starlet” by regional healthcare leaders at the GCC e-Taskforce and is an Ambassador for Google’s Tech Makers program.
Dr. Mekki graduated with her MD from Qatar University School of Medicine in 2025, gaining clinical and research training at leading Qatari and international healthcare institutions including Aspetar, Hamad Medical Corporation, and Sidra Medicine, Mayo Clinic Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, King’s College London and Cambridge Teaching Hospitals.
