Dr. Abubakr A. Imam

Dr. Imam graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Khartoum in 1991. He completed his Pediatric Residency Training and Chief Residency in 1998 in New York and his fellowship training in Pediatric Nephrology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2001. He joined the faculty at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan/Wayne State University in 2001 as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and became the Director of Renal Transplantation Program form 2003-2006. He then joined the faculty of Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio as an Associate Professor and Chief of Nephrology from 2006-2009. He became the Head Section of Nephrology at King Fahad Medical City in Saudi Arabia from 2009-2012 and then the Head of Pediatric Nephrology at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar from 2012 to 2018. He was the Director of the Pediatric Fellowship Programs at Hamad Medical Corporation and the Director of Postgraduate Medical Education at Sidra Medicine, Qatar.
Dr. Imam is currently the Division Chief of Nephrology at Sidra Medicine; a Clinical Professor of Clinical Nephrology at the College of Medicine-Qatar University; and an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medicine. He is board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics as well as its Sub-Board of Pediatric Nephrology. He is also board-certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physician. He is the Chair of the Clinical Effectiveness & Outcome Committee and Co-Chair of the Policies & Procedures Group and Co-Chair of Credentials Committee at Sidra Medicine. He is a member of many international organizations and has many publications in the field of Pediatrics, Nephrology and Transplantation.
