Hypospadias Advanced Training Program
Program Overview
The Hypospadias Advanced Training Program at Sidra Medicine is advanced training opportunity designed for qualified pediatric surgeons and pediatric urologists. Trainees acquire advanced, specialized knowledge surgical experience, participate in cutting-edge clinical training, and engage in in-depth research at one of the world’s leading high-volume centers for hypospadias management. Fellows gain exposure to complex and revision hypospadias cases and work within a multidisciplinary team committed to excellence in patient care. The program accepts only two fellows per year, is unpaid and self-funded, and is accredited by the Graduate Medical Education Office at Sidra Medicine.

Key Rotations
- Week 1: Observe surgeries, engage in patient evaluations
- Week 2: Assist in surgeries, begin basic research tasks
- Week 3: Lead patient care, assist in more complex surgeries
- Week 4: Perform key steps of the surgeries under supervision, contribute to research conclusions
- Certified Urologist, Pediatric Surgeon or Pediatric Urologist.
- Minimum 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience.
- A minimum of three years post-board certification experience in pediatric urology or urology with active involvement in hypospadias care.
- Prior surgical experience in at least 50 hypospadias cases (as primary surgeon or first assistant); case logbook is required
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
- Demonstrated interest in hypospadias care and research.
- One letter of recommendation from a senior urologist or program director attesting to the applicant’s suitability and commitment to advanced hypospadias training.

How long is the program?
Option 1: Hands-on Training is 4 weeks long and requires full-time participation.

Option 2: Medical Observership Hands-Off Training

Eligibility & Requirements
What are the eligibility criteria?
Applicants must:
- Be a certified Urologist, Pediatric Surgeon, or Pediatric Urologist
- Have at least 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience
- Have a minimum of 3 years post-board certification in pediatric urology or urology with active involvement in hypospadias care
- Be proficient in English (spoken and written)
- Show demonstrated interest in hypospadias care and research

- All applications are reviewed and shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
- Selection is subject to licensing requirements and final approval by the medical education and clinical governance teams.

Is temporary licensing required to participate for the Hands-on training?
- Yes, all accepted candidates must obtain a temporary license to practice in Qatar, as mandated by the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) under the Ministry of Public Health.

Administrative Requirements prior to the confirmation of start date of Hands-on training
- Police Clearance Certificate from the home country (as per passport) attested by Qatar Embassy and from MOFA Qatar (please note that there is validity of the attested police clearance depending on the institution in your country who issued the police clearance).
- Valid medical tests (validity for up to 6 months) from the home country (Chest X-ray and Blood Test report including the following tests: “Hepatitis B Surface AB, Hepatitis B Core AB, Hepatitis B Surface Ag, HCV AB and HIV”) of your home country and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Qatar in your home country.
Fees & Financial Responsibility
The applications are open for 2027, and the interviews will be on early September 2026.
Is this a paid program?
- No, the program is unpaid and self-funded. Selected trainees are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, health insurance and living expenses.
Required processing fee for all accepted candidates:
- Hands-on training is a 4-week track, a non-refundable processing fee of 14,814 QAR is required.
- Medical Observership Hands-Off Training
- 2-week training program, a non-refundable processing fee of 3,704 QAR is required.
- 4-week training program, a non-refundable processing fee of 7,407 QAR is required.
Note: Payment instructions will be provided upon acceptance. The processing fee amount is subject to change. Candidates will be informed in advance if any updates are made.
Is the processing fee refundable if I withdraw or cancel?
- No, the processing fee is non-refundable, even in case of withdrawal or cancellation after acceptance.
When is the processing fee due?
- The fee must be paid within the specified deadline communicated in your acceptance notification to secure your placement.
