Pediatric Rheumatology
Program Overview
Sidra Medicine is a large tertiary children’s hospital, with 57 beds in the ED, 24 PICU and tertiary NICU beds, and multiple pediatric specialists. The pediatric rheumatology program at Sidra is the only program in Qatar that sees pediatric patients, from infancy to the age of 18 years, with rheumatic disease or suspected rheumatic disease. Furthermore, we see patients that come from countries within the region for second opinions. The pediatric rheumatology division opened in 2017 and provides outpatient, inpatient, consults, ED, and infusion services which serve a large group of patients that the fellow will have experience with, in a variety of settings and levels of acuity. We have various multidisciplinary clinics in collaboration with the ophthalmology, neurology, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, and physiotherapy departments. We have 2000 outpatient visits per year with Juvenile arthritis being the most common diagnosis.
We provide high quality, patient centered clinical care and we have a strong collaboration with the adult rheumatologists, and our immune dysregulation research program. Altogether the 3-year ACGME-I accredited program offers a high volume of patients with all the rheumatology diseases being represented, among diverse patient groups, strong mentorship, and an academic environment that will prepare trainees to become independent pediatric rheumatologists.
Develop collaborative and compassionate clinical expertise in rheumatic diseases within the framework of ACGME-I core competencies, professionalism, patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, and systems-based practice.
