Pediatric Neuroradiology
Program Overview
The pediatric neuroradiology fellowship program is a two-year fellowship that takes place at Sidra Medicine, the principal tertiary pediatric facility in Qatar and an epilepsy surgical center. The program is led by a team of trained and specialized faculty in pediatric neuroradiology. Its goal is to provide clinical training in the performance and reporting of pediatric neuro-imaging studies, adapted to include the skills needed in the era of precision medicine. The pediatric neuroimaging division support several large pediatric services including neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, intensive care units, ENT, craniofacial surgery, genetics, and emergency care. Fellows will receive daily one-on-one study interpretation sessions with faculty. They are required to attend and present at several multi-disciplinary meetings. Fellows are also given protected time to attend didactics, prepare talks and take part in research.
- Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of pediatrics neuroradiology and apply this knowledge to various radiological studies
- Provide a clear informative written radiologic report including precise diagnosis whenever possible, and recommend follow up or additional studies when appropriate
- Communicate effectively with patients, parents, professional staff and referring clinicians while maintaining confidentiality
- Demonstrate confidence in protocoling, supervising and reporting pediatric Neuro CT& MR examinations
- Demonstrate a responsible work ethic, including punctuality and professional appearance
- Involvement in Scholarship activity with at least one peer reviewed publication during the time of the fellowship
- Involvement in teaching to medical students and fellows during the period of the fellowship
Fellows will primarily rotate in cross-sectional (CT/MR) neuro-imaging rotations. Fellows will also be given protected time to attend epilepsy PET or SPECT imaging sessions and to observe neurosurgeries and neurology clinics. Fellows will be responsible to partake in several multi-disciplinary meetings, including oncology, NICU, epilepsy and peer review radiology meetings. They will also receive didactics in pediatric neuro-pathologies as well as advanced imaging techniques. Fellows are also expected to teach and give two talks during this period. Finally, the neuro-imaging division is heavily involved in research and each fellow is required to complete one research study to be submitted for publication by end of training to receive the certificate of completion.
