Patient Safety Through the Eyes of Health Literacy
The Health and Wellness Education department at Sidra Medicine is hosting its fourth Health Literacy Conference from 18 to 19 October 2024.
Themed as "Patient Safety through the eyes of health literacy”, this year’s conference, in recognition of October’s International Health Literacy month, will focus on the critical role of health literacy in ensuring patient safety among healthcare professionals, policymakers, educators, and patients themselves.
Health literacy is crucial for maintaining patient safety in healthcare settings as individuals with higher levels of health literacy are better equipped to comprehend medical information, navigate healthcare settings, and adhere to treatment plans effectively. A first-of-its-kind pediatric dysphagia and FEES (fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing) workshop in the region, featuring world-renown international speakers, Dr Douglas Sidell (MD), and April Johnson (SLP) coming from Stanford University School of Medicine, USA, who have extensive experience in performance of FEES, and establishing one of the best aerodigestive care programs in the USA. Dr Taseer Din (MD) and Lisa McNamara (SLP) are local faculty and have multi-national pediatric dysphagia and complex airway care expertise currently establishing similar best care practices at Sidra Medicine, Qatar.
