    Education Lead & Senior Attending Physician

    Dr. Barbara Blackie is the Education Lead and a Senior Attending Physician for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Sidra, providing faculty development and overseeing the education plan for the large multinational group of physicians and nurse practitioners who will open the Sidra Emergency Department. She is a Master Trainer for the TeamSTEPPS program at Sidra. Barbara is very active in the CME/CPD processes at Sidra, and sat on the CME/CPD Committee for 3 years. In addition she sits on the CME/CPD Advisory Committee at Weill Cornell, where she also has a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor. Other activities include co-chair for the Scientific Committee for QPEM, the annual Pediatric Emergency Medicine Conference, she co-chairs the Procedural Sedation Committee and is involved in a number of other committees at Sidra. Barbara works clinically as part of the Rapid Response/Code Blue team at the OPC and as well as having worked shifts at the PEC Al Saad, the busiest Pediatric Emergency department in the country. When she is not working clinically and not planning education in the ED, she can be found planning simulations and team training with the simulation team, teaching PALS and ACLS at Sidra and ATLS at HITC and collaborating with EMS, teaching transport courses for the Rapid Response Team. Dr. Blackie arrived in Doha with her family in 2014. Prior to the move, she worked in Canada at a tertiary care, level one trauma center for pediatrics affiliated with Dalhousie University School of Medicine. She brings with her many years of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Trauma experience. Dr. Blackie taught ATLS and trauma CME throughout the province of Nova Scotia. In addition, she held the role of Associate Chief for the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, and was the Program Director for their accredited Pediatric Emergency Medicine residency/fellowship program. Dr. Blackie is an active educator who holds a Master of Medical Education.
