What is Joint Commission International?

The United States–based Joint Commission International was established in 1994. It is a global healthcare accreditation organization that has audited more than 900 healthcare organizations in over 60 countries.

With the reputation of Joint Commission International for being the benchmark, third-party, independent assessment organization, Sidra Medicine has invested in this framework to improve and enhance sustainable quality and safety for its patients and families in Qatar and around the world.

Silver Center of Excellence Accreditation

Silver Center of Excellence Accreditation

The extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) program at Sidra Medicine, was awarded the Silver Center of Excellence accreditation by the international Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). ELSO is an international non-profit organization, bringing together hospitals and individuals dedicated to developing, evaluating, and researching therapies for supporting failing organ systems through the use of ECMO.

The ELSO Path to Excellence in Extracorporeal Life Support Award recognizes that Sidra Medicine meets international quality standards. for the delivery of complex ECMO care in neonates and children.

What Accreditation Means

JCI maintains partnerships with the World Alliance for Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), Institute for Health Care Improvement (IHI) Improvement, and many other international partners. Accreditation with JCI provides our patients and their families with the assurance and confidence of outstanding and safe patient care.

Based in Education City and as an entity of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development – Sidra Medicine is part of a dynamic research and education environment. Education City includes leading international institutions such as Georgetown University, Carnegie Mellon University and HEC Paris as well as recently established national research centers like Qatar Biomedical Research Institute and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute.

Sidra Medicine will work closely with its academic partner Weill-Cornell Medicine in Qatar (WCM-Q) as well as other health and research institutions like Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Qatar Biobank in regard to all three missions – raising the standard of healthcare throughout the country and providing valuable opportunities for research and learning.
