Differences (Disorders) of Sexual Development (DSD) Workshop
Overview
This half‑day workshop will introduce core concepts in DSD, build participants’ confidence in initial clinical assessment, and highlight multidisciplinary and ethical aspects of care.
Workshop Objectives
- Define the term Differences or Disorders of Sexual Development (DSD) and list common types and presentations.
- Explain the biological basis of DSD including chromosomal, gonadal, and anatomical variations.
- Demonstrate how to conduct a clinical evaluation of a child with suspected DSD, including history, physical examination, and initial laboratory investigations.
- Differentiate between various DSD etiologies based on clinical findings, lab results, and imaging.
- Assess multidisciplinary approaches to management and ethical considerations, including gender assignment and counseling.
- Develop individualized care plans integrating medical, surgical, psychosocial, and cultural factors for children with DSD.
