- Acute Care Medicine
Dr Zahid Hussain has joined the division of Internal Medicine/Acute Care Medicine as Senior Attending Physician at Sidra Medicine. He graduated from Allama Iqbal Medical College, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan and received specialist training in Birmingham, West Midlands UK. He is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, UK and an examiner for MRCP PACES. He has over 25 years of clinical experience in the UK and has also worked in the past as Consultant Internal Medicine in King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh. He has been a substantive consultant in Royal Berkshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Ashford & St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. He has been actively involved in teaching and has taught undergraduates of St George’s Medical School, London, Imperial College London, University of Oxford Medical School, University of Southampton, and Al Faisal University Medical College (An affiliate of Harvard University Medical School). Dr Hussain is an Accredited Educational Supervisor (Royal College of Physicians of London) and has been extensively involved in teaching and training of specialist trainees at all levels. He is also an accredited appraiser for consultants and Royal College of Physicians Representative for Appointment Advisory Committee for Consultants.Dr Hussain’s area of interest include hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, thrombosis, and stroke. He has been a lead consultant in various hospitals in the UK and has experience of developing several new services to his credit. He has coordinated clinical guidelines and pathways in various hospitals and revised and wrote new clinical guidelines for different institutions and primary care. His research was mainly in ischemic heart disease in younger and older people.
