Dr Velu Guruswamy graduated in medicine from India in 1991 and postgraduate diploma in Anesthesiology in India and moved to Ireland followed by UK in 1997. He completed fellowship in pediatric anesthesia and clinical fellowship in PICU at Alder Hey Hospital Liverpool, UK and obtained CCT, UK. Prior to arriving at Sidra in October 2017, he was a Senior Lecturer at University of Leeds and Consultant anesthetist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust from 2006.
In his 24 years of anesthesiology experience he has developed subspecialty interest in pediatric neuro, craniofacial anesthesia and liver transplant and pediatric acute pain. He was the lead for pediatric neuro anesthesia in Leeds for 11 years. Leeds has both cadaveric and Living related Liver Transplant.
A major portion of his non-clinical focus is in education - various healthcare professionals. The focus of his research mirrored clinical responsibilities: pediatric anesthesia and acute pain medicine.
Velu is on the Editorial board of EC Anesthesia, currently a Scientific committee member of the APAGBI (Association of Pediatric Anesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland) and has many publications in peer reviewed journals, citations of my articles and presentations in International meetings.
His ambitions at Sidra would mirror his past experiences in clinical work, education ,academic and clinical research and has successfully registered Sidra in MEPA ( Management of Emergencies in Pediatric Anesthesia) to become the first center in the Middle East.
