- Pediatric Anesthesia
Senior Attending Physician
I graduated in medicine in India and did my postgraduate diploma in Anesthesiology in India. I had the chance of working in four different systems ie India, Ireland, UK and Singapore. Obtained CCT in UK. I did my fellowship in pediatric anesthesia in the famous Alder Hey Hospital Liverpool, UK where I also completed a clinical fellowship in PICU. Prior to arriving at Sidra in October 2017, I was a Senior Lecturer at University of Leeds and Consultant anesthetist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust from 2006. I have done my Masters in Business Administration in health care management in Greenwich School of management affiliated to University of Plymouth.
My personal responsibilities included provision of elective anesthesia for most pediatric subspecialty work and emergency anesthesia for all pediatric specialties at the Infirmary site which included pediatric hepatobiliary lists, pediatric cardiac catheter lab and pediatric liver and renal transplant. I was the lead for pediatric neuro anesthesia in Leeds. Leeds had both cadaveric and Living related Liver and Renal Transplant. Leeds is one of the three pediatric liver transplant centers in UK.
A major portion of my non-clinical focus has been education of anesthetic registrars, junior doctors, medical students, and nurses, in-theatre teaching and training for undergraduates, post-graduate anesthesia trainees, PICU trainees, A&E trainees, and visiting consultants from around the region who attend Leeds for refresher weeks. The focus of my research naturally mirrors my clinical responsibilities: pediatric anesthesia and acute pain medicine. I was a key participant in particular projects in neuro and craniofacial anesthesia, femoral vessel anatomy using ultrasound.
I was involved in setting up the pediatric high dependency unit for neurosurgical patients. I setup the pediatric pain database for Leeds children’s hospital which currently has about 6000 plus patients. I have organized departmental, regional and few national level meetings. I am on the Editorial board of EC Anesthesia and also peer review. Was an invited speaker in India and China. I am currently a Scientific committee member of the APAGBI(Association of Pediatric Anesthetists of Great Britain and Ireland). I have many publications in peer reviewed journals, citations of my articles and presentations in International meetings.
My ambitions at Sidra Medicine would mirror my past experiences in clinical work, education ,academic and clinical research and apart from clinical work in Sidra Medicine especially neuro and craniofacial, I would be a co-leader in education for the pediatric anesthesia program here at Sidra Medicine it will be my responsibility and ultimate goal to develop international fellowship and resident programs. Simulation will be fundamental in the creation of such program and currently involved in the development of a high fidelity simulation program for pediatric anesthesia based on the MEPA (Managing Emergencies in Pediatric Anesthesia) international group. It is the first of its kind for the Middle East.
