Dr Roshan Adappa graduated from medical school in Mysore, India in 1992. After one year of a junior residency programme, he started his Pediatrics specialty training initially in Mangalore India completing his MD. He then moved to the UK and continued his Paediatric training obtaining his MRCP (MRCPCH) in 2000. He completed his registrar training in various hospitals in the North-East of England and Wales. He was selected for Neonatal Grid training and obtained a CCT in Neonatal Medicine. During this period, he also completed a research degree (MD) from Cardiff University. He was appointed Neonatal Consultant (Attending) in the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport in 2006 for three years, before his appointment as Consultant in Neonatal medicine at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff in 2009. UHW, is a regional teaching hospital, tertiary unit and surgical neonatal unit. He has been a Neonatal consultant in the UK for 11years before joining Sidra.
Dr Adappa’s main interests; are neonatal ventilation, epidemiology and database in quality improvement. In the UK, he represented Wales on the project board for the National Neonatal Audit Project (NNAP) for nearly 10 years. He was also the MBRRACE (perinatal audit), VON (Vermont Oxford Network) lead for the neonatal unit at Cardiff. His academic interest is in post graduate teaching; he established an MSc in neonatal medicine delivered by Cardiff University. The MSc is in its third year with students from many countries. He was member of national research ethics committee specialising in phase 1 trials and was asked to be its vice-chair. He is an associate editor of the Paediatrics and Child Health Journal. He was part of a team involved in facilitating one of the UK’s first neonatal organ donation.
Dr.Roshan Adappa is a member of British Association of Perinatal Medicine and of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the UK.
