    Senior Attending Physician

    Louis G. Chicoine, MD, FAAP, is a member of the senior neonatology Sidra medical staff. He completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX. And he went on to complete his pediatric residency and neonatal fellowship at Stanford University in Stanford CA and University of Colorado in Denver CO, respectively. Prior to joining Sidra’s Division of Neonatology, Dr. Chicoine was an Associate Professor of Medicine at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and attending physician at Nationwide Children's Hospital, one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric hospitals and research institutes in the United States, and ranked as one of America’s best children’s hospitals for many years. During a good portion of his 15 year tenure there, Dr. Chicoine directed the ECMO program and also provided clinical and didactic education to residents and fellows as well as advance practice nursing staff on the fundamentals of physiology and neonatology. Dr. Chicoine was rated top 100 Doctors in neonatology in 2011 and enjoys teaching and mentoring neonatal professionals.

    In addition to his clinical endeavors, Dr. Chicoine was a principal investigator in the Center for Gene Therapy at The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital, a world leading institute in gene therapy for neuromuscular diseases, where he collaborated with the Institute’s neuromuscular gene therapy team culminating in the team’s successful phase I/II gene therapy clinical trials and a U.S. patent for gene therapy delivery.

    Dr. Chicoine’s neonatal research endeavors focused on the study of nitric oxide synthetase metabolism in normal and abnormal lung and lung vascular development.

    Dr. Chicoine is excited about the many opportunities to advance Sidra’s clinical research programs as well as mentoring the next generation of neonatal professionals in the State of Qatar.
