Dr. Kamal Hassan is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the Weill Cornell Medical College - Qatar and a Senior Attending Physician in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Sidra Medicine.
He received his MBBS degree at the University of Khartoum, Sudan, in 1987.
He completed his residency and fellowship training in the UK and is a Fellow at the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH).
He completed one year of Clinical Fellowship at the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, Canada, and is a member of the North American Pediatric Gastroenterology Society (NASPGHN).
He holds a UK Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in both Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.
He worked as a pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition consultant at the Sick Children’s hospital (York Hill) in Glasgow, UK from Oct 2003 to Nov 2007.
He joined Hamad General Hospital, Doha, Qatar from November 2007 to November 2017 as a pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition senior consultant. He was the Head of the section until June 2015 and he established the first, and currently the only, Pediatric Home Parenteral Nutrition (HPN) Program in the whole of the Arabic region in 2011.
He joined Sidra Medicine in Nov 2017 as a Senior Attending Physician in Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition and he is the Director of the Intestinal Rehabilitation and HPN program.
His research interests are multi-disciplinary and clinically oriented. He has been the principal investigator or co-investigator for a number of primary and secondary research projects that involved the genetics of gastrointestinal disorders, pediatric intestinal failure and HPN.
