    Division Chief - Orthopaedic Surgery

    Dr. Howard is a pediatric orthopedic and spine surgeon specializing in the treatment of spinal deformity (e.g. scoliosis), neuromuscular disorders (e.g. cerebral palsy), pediatric trauma, and general pediatric orthopedic conditions. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada) and holds clinical fellowships in pediatric orthopedics (Melbourne, Australia) and pediatric spine (Auckland, New Zealand). He was also the Japanese Pediatric Orthopedic Association's 2004 International Traveling Fellow. He has recently accepted the post of Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at Sidra Medical and Research Center – an ultra-modern academic Women and Children’s Hospital under development in Doha, Qatar.

    Dr. Howard has specific surgical interests in neuromuscular and idiopathic scoliosis surgery (including early-onset scoliosis), single event multi-level surgery for gait correction and hip reconstruction in cerebral palsy, percutaneous osteotomies with Fassier-Duval rodding for long bone deformities in osteogenesis imperfecta, and innovative techniques for upper and lower extremity fracture management.

    He has held several academic medicine positions in the past including Assistant Professorships in the Faculties of Medicine at both Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada) and the University of Calgary (Calgary, Canada). He has been extremely active in residency and medical school teaching within these institutions and currently with Weill Cornell Medical College-Qatar. He was also the former Clinical Director for the C.H. Riddell Movement Assessment Centre at the ACH and he helped develop the Centre into a world-class clinical gait laboratory. He recently completed the Biodesign program through Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at Stanford University (San Jose, CA, USA) and is keenly interested in the development of innovative new medical technologies.
