Senior Attending Physician (Lead of Research)
Colin qualified in 1984 from the Victoria University of Manchester UK and trained in General Pediatrics’, Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine in Manchester and Sheffield, England, UK and Melbourne, Australia. He completed a respiratory fellowship and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and commenced his first Consultant’s post in Melbourne in 1998 as a Staff Pediatrician in the Emergency Department, General Pediatrician and Senior Lecturer with Melbourne University. He returned to the UK and joined the Children’s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff Wales UK in 2002 and became Senior Lecturer, Reader (Associate Professor) and then Honorary Professor of Child Health with Cardiff University. He established the undergraduate training program for Pediatrics’ with a focus on simulation and communication training with children and families.
Apart from work I enjoy family life, watching football, playing table tennis and volley ball.
His main research has been focusing on acutely unwell children with a major interest in respiratory illness, service delivery and patient safety. He has over 140 publications, three text book contributions and has been involved in over 12 Million (pounds sterling) of NIHR and HTA and HS&DR research Grants in Australia and the UK. He was Deputy Dean of Research for Cardiff University and has been Chairs of the British Association of General Pediatrics’ (BAGP) and the Clinical Studies Group.
