Qatar Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Comprehensive Surgical Services for Musculoskeletal Disorders

Has your child been complaining of aches and pains? Musculoskeletal diseases and disorders are common problems for infants and children in Qatar, which is why we at Sidra Medicine have developed a comprehensive pediatric orthopedic surgery service.

Procedures We Perform

At Sidra Medicine, we care for a wide range of pediatric orthopedic disorders often specific to a particular age group (infants, children and adolescents) including:

  • Serious malformations of the limbs, such as clubfoot or congenital limb deficiencies
  • Substantial limb deformity secondary to metabolic bone disease (e.g. osteogenesis imperfecta) or growth arrest
  • Developmental dysplasia of the hip or other congenital/developmental/neuromuscular hip disorders
  • Chronic sequelae of bone and joint infection
  • Acute presentations of bone and joint infection
  • Perthes disease of the hip or other osteochondral disorders of the hip
  • Acute presentations of slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) requiring emergent management
  • Scoliosis or other spinal deformities
  • Limb length discrepancy
  • Deformity or gait abnormality secondary to neuromuscular conditions (e.g. cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophies)
  • Acute presentations of fractures or dislocations requiring urgent or emergent management
  • Chronic sequelae of complex fractures and dislocations
  • Benign bone tumors

Conditions We Treat

The conditions we treat have to do with children’s limbs and spine: the tissues of bones, muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments and nerves. Usually patients do not arrive with a labelled condition but with symptoms (like pain or instability) or observable features (like deformity or a limp).

Broadly, the conditions we treat are those of the musculoskeletal system that cause deformity, pain, anatomy variation or asymmetry, instability or stiffness, some of which include:

These three large groups of conditions can affect anywhere throughout the skeletal system.

Other conditions – in particular cerebral palsy, osteogenesis imperfecta, fibrous dysplasia, achondroplasia, muscular dystrophy, neurofibromatosis, neurogenetic conditions – affect many body systems (not just musculoskeletal), but also can also affect many parts of the musculoskeletal system. Similarly, patients or parents may notice a ‘Limping child’, abnormal gait (walking pattern), or limb length inequality (one leg shorter than other) – all of these have multiple causes, at different sites of the body.

The orthopedic experts at Sidra Medicine also provide:
