Chief Nursing Officer
Julie Smith joined Sidra Medicine as Chief Nursing Officer in April 2018.
Julie brings with her over 30 years of experience in the NHS in the UK, having first trained as a nurse in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her career then saw her working in a variety of clinical roles from staff nurse through to matron before moving into general management and onto a variety of roles held regionally and nationally within the UK.
Julie has a background that spans large, multi-site district general hospitals and large teaching hospitals, including the NHS Modernisation Agency and the UK Department of Health where she focused on quality improvement and the transformation of clinical services delivery models.
In her previous roles, Julie made significant contributions to nursing and midwifery workforce development, clinical standards and clinical engagement. She was also recognized for her work in improving quality and safety delivery with a Royal College Midwifery - Maternity Service of the Year award in 2015.
Prior to joining Sidra Medicine, Julie spent the last eight years as a Chief Nurse, the latter three of which where at the University Hospitals of Leicester — one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. The University Hospitals of Leicester have extensive specialist services, including a children’s hospital and large maternity unit.
Julie’s passion is the delivery of high quality care that leads to great patient experiences and outcomes. She is particularly interested in vulnerable groups and ensuring they have access to the best possible care.
