Dame Ruth Carnall

Dame Ruth Carnall has more than 35 years’ experience in healthcare, including 20 years as a Chief Executive in acute hospitals, mental health, community services and health authorities.

Dame Ruth is a Managing Partner at Carnall Farrar with public and private sector clients which have included SEHA Abu Dhabi; the Shelford Group; London Healthcare Commission; Royal Free London as well as NHS Trusts and programs for Croydon, Eastern Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Dame Ruth was also the strategic advisor to the Mayor of London, a member of the Council at Imperial College London and vice Chair of the Kings Fund.

Dame Ruth was responsible for establishing the National Health Service London – the strategic health authority for London. In her capacity as the Chief Executive of the NHS(L), she oversaw an extensive program of performance improvement and strategic change. The results of this work are widely recognized in the UK and internationally.

Dame Ruth was awarded Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the National Health Service in London in 2004. In 2011, she received Dame Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her achievements in healthcare.
