Based on the theme of Food Safety, Sidra celebrated World Health Day today with a host of activities for its employees.
Sidra’s team of dieticians and nutritionists offered food safety and nutrition advice to staff and a booth was set up for those interested in finding out their Body Fat Analysis. A cooking demo was organized to showcase different ways and recipes using seasonal vegetables in Doha with tips on how to prepare food safely at home. Sidra’s canteen had also set up a special menu to mark the day.
It was a fun day in support of an important world observance and we look forward to sharing nutritional updates with our readers in future posts.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has released Five keys to safer food:
1 – Keep Clean by washing your hands often during food preparation and protect your kitchen and food from insects, pests and other animals.
2 – Separate Raw and cooked food like meat, poultry and seafood. And use separate equipment and utensils when handling raw foods.
3 – Cook your food thoroughly. This is especially important for meat, poultry, eggs and seafood
4 – Keep food at safe temperatures making sure to not leave cooked food at room temperature for more than two hours.
5 – Use safe water and raw materials. This means using safe water to drink and to wash your food items and ensuring not to use food that is beyond its expiry date.
