November 1st – 4th was a very exciting time in Washington, DC; the First Qatari Students Career Fair took place! The fair attracted a large number of bright and motivated Qatari students, who were all eager to learn more about the exciting career opportunities their futures might hold.
We were proud to be the Diamond Sponsor of the event. Sidra’s scholarship team is always seeking new ways of reaching out to the next generation of Qatari talent, and the career fair proved to be an excellent forum for achieving this.
Our Chief Executive Officer Dr. William Owen spoke at the event. In his speech, Dr. Owen gave an overview of the Sidra Scholarship Program, providing the students with a picture of what Sidra can offer them and outlining the important work they would be doing as Sidra team members.
Dr. Owen noted that: “The vision from Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser for Sidra Medical and Research Center is a bold and inspiring one. Sidra will be a groundbreaking institution that stands as a beacon of learning, discovery and exceptional care, ranking among the top academic medical centers in the world.”
Dr. Owen also touched on Sidra’s continuously growing, international team and our patient-centered approach: “With new team members joining us every week from all over the world, you will become part of this extraordinary institution with a truly inspiring ethos of providing exceptional care and services for its patients.”
Speaking about the ways that our Scholarship Program can help young Qataris reach their full potential, Dr. Owen stated: “A career which supports Qatar’s health care vision is a great choice for young Qataris, and more of you are deciding to follow this path. This is a great opportunity for young people to make a lasting contribution to health care for women and children in Qatar, in the region, and in the world.”
Dr Owen continued” “Our Scholarship Program exists to help young people, like you, realize their full potential and to develop a talent pool of healthcare and management professionals who will be the future leaders for Qatar. The Program is well-respected and highly sought after, and we have now reached the stage of having more applications than places.
“ Dr. Owen concluded by noting the positive impact that our Scholarship Program has on both students’ lives and the wider society: “Sidra-sponsored students who graduate and join us in Doha, become part of a team of dynamic, supremely talented, world-leading professionals, all working to make a lasting contribution in the field of health care, learning, and research in Qatar, and for Qatar. ”
In the coming years, we hope to welcome some of the students we met in Washington DC to the Sidra team!
