Technology
Intended to be wireless, filmless and virtually paperless - a concept called "paper-lite" - Sidra will be an all-digital facility, incorporating the most advanced IT applications in all clinical, research and business functions. This includes the use of advanced technologies such as robotics, computer-aided surgery and diagnostics, and digital imaging more advanced than 3D.
All systems will be focused on the integration of data and workflows between functions, the elimination of redundant processes and, most importantly, providing high quality service at the point of care - the patient. Not only will patients have greater ease of access to care and information, but their safety will be enhanced. For instance, when a new medication is entered into a patient's record, systems will automatically alert his/her doctor to any possible drug interactions with other medications the patient might be taking.
Doctors and medical staff also benefit from a fully digital facility because it will allow them to access a patient's comprehensive medical record, provide immediate decision support, and permit a streamlined process for consulting best clinical practices. Having these technologies will also greatly enhance job satisfaction and aid in the recruitment and retention of high quality, experienced staff.
Sidra will also be aligned with Qatar's national e-Health strategy which is currently under development.
