Sidra Research Mission

To be a pioneer in clinical and translational biomedical research of value to Qatar and the world.

 

Strategic Objectives 

  • Develop world leading science and research programs that align with Qatar National Research Strategy.  Prioritize translational research programs that link to diseases relevant in Qatar and the region.

  • Be the primary source and instrument of health science communication in Qatar and for Qatar internationally, positioning Sidra as a leader in research and in raising general awareness and knowledge of healthcare and science in Qatar and the region.

  • Support national drive in building a knowledge-based society and ensure sustainability in developing a world-class research capacity.

  • Contribute to collaborations in health research in Qatar to support scientific discovery, build critical mass and strengthen the overall competitiveness of science and research community in Qatar.

Research Agenda

Will conduct research in following areas to advance understanding of epidemiology and mechanisms of diseases, develop preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic tools, and improve health outcome and address other public health issues.

  • Development and Preventive Medicine

Research programs in neonatal medicine, pediatric prevention and adolescent prevention, addressing issues such as inborn errors of metabolism and postnatal conditions of the infant such as hypothermia, malnutrition and infection. 

  • Pregnancy Health and Fertility

Research programs in prenatal health, perinatal health, postnatal health, and fertility, addressing issues such as high infant mortality rate in Qatar, early-term miscarriage and neural tube defects.

  • Women’s Health

Research programs in diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and others, addressing issues such as gestational diabetes, gynecological cancers and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

To facilitate innovative research, attract scientists to Qatar and provide a safe environment to conduct research and training. Facilities include:

Manufacturing and analyzing novel chemical entities for use in laboratory research and animal studies.

Fully equipped and linked to bioinformatics platform and laboratory information management system.

  • Bioinformatics Core

Providing service, training, consultation, and research in biomedical computing and software development.

  • Imaging Core

State of the art imaging and analysis systems.

  • Flow Cytometry Core

Fully equipped, providing cell sorting service, training and consultation.

  • Laboratory Information Management System

Supporting workflow, biospecimen management and data management.

  • Drug Analysis Core

Facilitating basic research and clinical trials, determinating pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic parameters, and working to Good Laboratory Practice standard.

  • Clinical Research Center

Providing dedicated resource and a central node for clinical research guidance and management, clinical care service, clinical research network and clinical research training.
