Daniel J. Bergin was appointed Executive Project Director of Qatar Foundation's Sidra Medical and Research Center project in June 2006.

He is a seasoned healthcare professional with nearly 20 years experience in executive leadership and management positions in the Queensland Australia public healthcare system known as Queensland Health.  He has had extensive experience with major capital projects for hospitals and has managed two major teaching hospitals as part of his executive responsibilities.

In his last position as Zonal Manager with Queensland Health, Bergin was responsible for planning and overseeing the delivery of all public hospital and community-based health services in the Central Zone, a large area of Queensland covering metropolitan, major provincial and rural-based populations with a total of 1.5 million people.  This included over 30 hospitals ranging from metropolitan tertiary teaching facilities with affiliations to universities to small rural hospitals and community health services in 15 districts.  In this position, Bergin managed a budget of approximately US$1.2 billion and a staff of 20,000.

As Chief Executive Officer of Gold Coast Health Services from 1992-2001, Bergin was responsible for all public hospital and health services on the Gold Coast, including the 500-bed Gold Coast Hospital, a teaching center with affiliations to the University of Queensland.  From 1991-92, Bergin served as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Princess Alexandra Hospital, managing a 900-bed metropolitan teaching hospital as well as several other hospitals, institutions and community health services.

Bergin holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Queensland.  He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and an Associate Fellow of the Australian College of Health Service Executives.  From 1994-2004, he was a Surveyor of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, and from 1991-98, he was the Queensland Representative to the National Council of the Australian Healthcare Association.
