Patrick Sheehan [MD, Bch M.Phil, FRCS(ORL-HNS)] is the Division Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology Head and Neck surgery of Sidra Medical and Research Center. As Division Chief, Dr Sheehan will be responsible for developing a world class pediatric otolaryngological service to the children of Qatar using the state of art technology available at Sidra Medical and Research Center. He is keen to promote a research basis within his department looking at the genetic basis for a number of ENT conditions that affect the children of the Middle East. He will develop a pediatric simulation training program within the specialty.
Prior to joining Sidra, Dr. Sheehan was a pediatric otolaryngologist at St Georges Hospital in London and previously at Manchester Children’s Hospital. Dr Sheehan was educated at Blackrock College in Dublin, Ireland and received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1987. He completed his otolaryngology training at London and West Midlands Hospitals of the UK before undertaking pediatric Fellowship training at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. He was the recipient of the Thomas Wickham Jones (TWJ) / University Hospital Network Fellowship to Toronto General Hospital and SickKids Hospital in 1999. Re returned to the UK to take up his appointment as a consultant surgeon at Manchester Children’s Hospital in 2000.
Dr. Sheehan founded the ENT clinic for children with Down syndrome in the UK which quickly developed a national and international reputation. He has regularly lectured internationally on all aspects of pediatric Otolaryngology. He is lecturer on the British Pediatric Otolaryngology course on ENT issues in children with Down syndrome. He is an advocate of Bone Anchored Hearing Aid technology in children with special needs and has published and lectured internationally on the BAHA surgery in children.
Dr. Sheehan has been a member of the court of examiners for both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ireland for many years. Dr. Sheehan is a member of the Quality Assurance subcommittee of the Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations of the British Intercollegiate Royal surgical colleges. He is an assessor of the intercollegiate membership examination of the Royal surgical colleges of Britain and Ireland.
