Dr McGrogan joined the Sidra Medical and Research Center in March 2015. Prior to this appointment, he was Regional Lead for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutritional (PGHN) services in the West of Scotland, Senior Attending Gastroenterologist at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow and the Leonard Gow lecturer on Medical disease of Infancy and Childhood at Glasgow University.
He has previously been President of the Scottish society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition; Gastroenterology Representative on the council of the British society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition and Chair of the clinical standards committee; and Pediatric representative of the Royal Colleges Joint Advisory Group on Endoscopy in the United Kingdom.
His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy, congenital enteropathies and aero digestive problems. He has a strong background in liver disorders and nutritional issues in children. He has expertise in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
The theme of his research work is focused on the co-relationship of the intestinal microbiome, inflammation and nutrition. He has developed and led research programs, been a principal investigator and a key participant many studies that have had an impact on patient care and safety.
