Dr Ben Lee attended the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, where he received his Bachelors, Masters of Public Health, and Medical degrees. He completed his pediatrics residency training at Brown University Alpert Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, and completed his neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. During his fellowship, he received support from the National Research Service Fellowship Award of the National Institutes of Health, USA, and completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Research degree at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
As for his clinical and administrative activities, Dr Lee was an attending neonatologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine, during which time he was also appointed Director of Neonatal Clinical Services at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. When he returned to his home state of New Jersey, he joined the Mid Atlantic Neonatology Associates as the Director of Clinical Research and Informatics and as faculty member at the Goryeb Children’s at Atlantic Health System, Morristown, New Jersey, USA. During this time, he served as the Vice Chair of the institutional review board and was a member of the pediatric resident selection committee. He continued his academic post as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City, New York and was elected Councilor At Large for the American Academy of Pediatrics New Jersey Chapter.
As for his academic, educational, and research activities, Dr Lee has mentored students and physician trainees in their career development and has received a number of awards including Faculty Teacher of the Year. He was the co-director of a regional academic neonatology conference series with an international faculty in New Jersey and continues to be an invited speaker at national and international meetings. He has served as a faculty member and session moderator for the Eastern Society for Pediatric Research annual meetings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and has been a rotating visiting professor in the International Training Program in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine of Fudan University Children’s Hospital and the Canadian Neonatal Network in Shanghai, China. An elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research, Dr Lee’s research activities have focused on perinatal insults with associated morbidities, with a concentration in neurological outcomes. He has received multiple awards from funding agencies, publishes in peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, and serves as an editor for several medical journals. He is an active member of several scientific societies, including the Society of Pediatric Research, Society for Neuroscience, and the Korean-American Medical Association, and is a faculty member for the Pediatric Academic Societies Annual Meetings.
