Dr Ben Lee attended the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, where he received his Bachelors, Masters of Public Health, and Medical degrees. He completed his pediatrics residency training at Brown University Alpert Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island, USA, and completed his neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. During his fellowship, he received support from the National Research Service Fellowship Award of the National Institutes of Health, USA, and completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Research degree at Emory University Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and has been a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 1999.

He has previously held the posts of Director of Neonatal Clinical Services (Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, USA), Director of Clinical Research and Informatics for neonatology, Vice Chair of the Institutional Review Board (Atlantic Health System, Morristown, New Jersey, USA), Councilor At Large for the American Academy of Pediatrics New Jersey Chapter, Chair of the Pediatric Academic Committee and member of the Pediatric Resident Selection Committee (Atlantic Health System, Morristown, New Jersey, USA). During this time, he was also an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics (Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, USA; Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City, New York, USA) and he currently holds an appointment as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics (Weill Cornell Medicine). In 2014, he joined Sidra as the Medical Director of Operations for Neonatology and in 2016, he increased his commitment to Sidra with service as Associate Chief Medical Officer.

An elected member of the Society for Pediatric Research, Dr Lee’s research activities have focused on perinatal insults with associated morbidities, with a concentration in neurological outcomes. He has received multiple awards from funding agencies and has authored or co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific papers, book chapters, and research abstracts. He serves as a medical journal editor and reviewer and is an active faculty member for the Pediatric Academic Societies (USA) and the International Neonatal Medical Congress (UAE) and regularly serves as an invited speaker at international academic programs, most recently in London, Shanghai, Budapest, Dubai, and Nepal. He has also mentored students and physician trainees in their career development and has received a number of awards including Faculty Teacher of the Year.
