The Cardiovascular Center of Excellence will provide all aspects of medical, interventional and surgical care for pediatric and adult patients with congenital or acquired heart disease. Accordingly, the Center will have on its staff the entire spectrum of medical, interventional, fetal, pediatric cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons and cardiac anesthesiologists. Cutting-edge, state-of-the-art interventional and surgical therapies will be offered to all patients with a variety of congenital or acquired conditions
The aim of the Department of Pediatric Medicine is to establish and advance the provision of pediatric clinical care for children 0-18 years of age with the highest quality, safety, and excellence at every patient encounter. However, for patients with potentially difficult and complex transition to adult care such as children with congenital heart disease, diabetes or other conditions, care will be provided up to 21 years of age. In achieving our aim to provide care with the highest quality, safety, and excellence, the scope of service at the Sidra Medical and Research Center will be focused on the tertiary and quaternary levels of specialized pediatric medical care, including complex, state-of-the-art procedures and therapies based on evidence and best practices and, where appropriate, on carefully designed, ethically approved experimental approaches provided by a highly trained international health care team. As such, Department of Pediatric Medicine will closely network with its tertiary care partner, the Hamad Medical Corporation (Hamad General Hospital, Women’s Hospital and Heart Hospital) in Doha. In addition, it will also network with the primary care services (e.g. Primary Health Care Corporation) and secondary care services at Al Khor Hospital, Al Wakra Hospital and the other hospitals in the Hamad Medical Corporation network.
The mission of the Department of Pediatric Medicine at Sidra is to provide the timely diagnosis, efficient, evidence and/or best practices-based medical care and follow-up of the patients leading to their recovery and optimized health status as quickly as possible. The care will be provided using a multidisciplinary approach in a compassionate, culturally sensitive and patient- and family-centered environment. As a result, the care provided at Sidra will enhance access to tertiary and quaternary care while providing community outreach, patient and family education and collaboration with primary care providers in the State of Qatar.
